According to the short story “The Man Who Walked through Walls” written by the French writer Marcel Ayme, an ordinary man discovered his ability to pass effortlessly through walls in his forties, since his lack of imagination, he decided to cure the power. However, due to his confrontation with his boss, he began to take advantage of his power, thus led to an unexpected ending. Although Ayme brushed over the last plot of the story, the life of the man ended up miserably. He became neither dead nor alive. Living a life without seeing, hearing, smelling, and eating, the man was trapped in a wall, stuck in the endless darkness, only through thinking can he get a bit freedom in his confined life. The ability to pass through walls should be a gift, perhaps it can be interpreted as a present from God. But is having such a “talent” fortunate or not? On the other hand, how much does “talent” contribute to success? Is it possible that we might not be able to enjoy the talent we were born with? Last but not least, if we failed to master the “talent”, would it be happier to live a life without noticing the power?
